The Northfield Rotary Club, Water for Guatemala grant was for $82,250 and the funds came from Rotary Clubs District 5960 and District 4740.
In PHASE 1 the focused was on two communities, Nuevo Progreso and Chocol both in the municipality of Santa Lucía Utatlan SLA. Progress as of December 2018.
Nuevo Progreso:
A 43 meter well was dug that supplies water to the public school and 90 homes in the community. The system includes a holding tank up on a hill, distribution pipes, water meters and a process of collecting for water use. Work on the septic system for the school and latrines is ongoing. In addition a non-profit in SLA, Mil Milagros has been continuing to teach sanitary practices and monitor the progress of the children. The photos show the improvement of the bathrooms at the school and one of the women of the community testing her new water spigot in her home.
